Background Intelligent Transfer Service

BITS stands for Background Intelligent Transfer Service and is designed to perform downloads of large files in the background (basically for Windows Update), is intelligent because it can suspend automatically when the network connection is needed for other (foreground) tasks and will automatically resume when the needed resources become available.

It can be used like a Download Manager (Getright, Download Accelerator..) creating download job, pausing and resuming job, just grab bitsadmin.exe from MS Support Tools (suptools.msi) and see the available options using bitsadmin.exe /?

There is also a trick here that allow to add it to your context menu.
